Press Release | Vaka Tautua Peer Support Team
Vaka Tautua’s Peer Support Team are taking
their service to the next level when it comes to
enhancing service user recovery in the community.
The Peer Support Team at Vaka Tautua have
begun a ‘Seven Peaks Series’ which challenges
service users to lead healthier lifestyles through
climbing Auckland’s 7 mountain peaks.
“We wanted to make the task of achieving weight
loss goals and increasing our fitness levels an
exciting task by having our fitness activities held at
various locations around Auckland that are challenging and motivating.” Says Vaka Tautua Peer Support Worker Vasa Tasele
Climbing mountains seemed to be a fitting exercise when the team reflected on the work that they do in the mental health sector.
“The journey of climbing mountains is a slow moving journey, it is also a metaphor of how we journey everyday with our service users and staff walking alongside each other and celebrating small steps and being able to see life from a different view. (The summit)” says Tasele.
The team have already completed climbing One Tree Hill and Mt Eden and the series is due to culminate with activities at Mt Rangitoto on the 25th of July.
