Vaka Tautua establishes Auckland Pacific Down Syndrome Group.
Did you know that in New Zealand one baby in about 1000 is born with Down Syndrome; that is one or more babies with Down Syndrome born every week!
Vaka Tautua have joined forces with the Auckland Down Syndrome Association to form the Auckland Pasifika Down Syndrome Support Group.
“With the support of the Auckland Down Syndrome Association and Vaka Tautua and the willingness of a mother with a son with Down Syndrome, she’s volunteered to coordinate our very first Auckland Pasifika Down Syndrome Support Group.
Vaka Tautua believe that there is a real need to support our Pacific children living with Down Syndrome and also their families.
“We met for the first time the other week and within 3 hours of our meeting we decided to go ahead and do something. Already five families have registered their interest which is great to hear.” Says DIAS Co-ordinator, Tina Carl-Mataiti.
We welcome Pasifika families with Down Syndrome (who are not members of the ADSA) to contact us for further information and to be a part of the Auckland Pasifika Down Syndrome Group.
