AWESSoM Project

Vaka Tautua is partnering with the University of Auckland on the Ageing Well through Eating, Sleeping, Socialising and Mobility (AWESSoM) Programme.

Purpose of the research

Loss of independence is a key concern for older people. The AWESSoM study is focused on maximising older people’s independence and pushing back the threshold of disability; and across different population groups (Māori, Pacific, Asian and other). 

Funder and timeframe

The research is funded by the University of Auckland and the Ageing Well National Science Challenge. The multi-phased study runs from September 2019 to October 2024.

Vaka Tautua’s involvement

Vaka Tautua is providing Pacific cultural expertise in one phase of the study (1 April 2021 to 31 July 2022). It involves leading the Pacific participant recruitment process, and supporting data collection procedures and data analysis.
