Mary Makita is a Community Social Worker for our Aiga Fiafia, in the Auckland region.

Mary joined Vaka Tautua in April 2020 initially as a Disability Coordinator. Upon completing her social worker registration and practising certificate, Mary moved to her role as Community Social Worker. She brings more than 20 years’ experience in the health and social services industry to her role, and holds Bachelor of Applied Social Work and Bachelor of Arts (major in Sociology) degrees.

Mary is extremely passionate about her work and feels it is a privilege and honour to walk beside our Pacific people, supporting them to thrive.

Born and raised in Aitutaki, Mary is a mother of six, grandmother of thirteen, and an active member of the Tamaki Pacific Islands Presbyterian Church. This keeps her busy, but when she does find some spare time, Mary enjoys making ei upoko (flower garlands).

“Treat people how you want to be treated.”
